Since the start of the Syrian crisis in 2011, massive destruction to houses, infrastructure and entire neighbourhoods caused displacement of countless numbers of Syrians. They had nowhere to go.
Islamic Relief’s work in this field, shelter and non-food items, was a solution to save lives immediately and maintain the dignity of the people inside Syria.
We supplied internally displaced people and refugees with the necessary shelter items and NFIs to preserve a basic life in their temporary residence, upgrading and rehabilitating shelters and increasing provision of appropriate saving-life emergency services and relief suppliers for the affected families. In 2016, NFIs such as tents and winterisation kits have been distributed for about 152,247 Syrian people in Northern Syria especially in the difficult winter conditions that people undergo.
The mother who left her home more than five years ago added: “It was a difficult trip to the camp near Atmah village but we feel safer here. One of the displaced families welcomed us in their own tent and we received a new tent the next day. The aid we receive is very helpful as it keeps my little children warm.”
Conditions in the camp are difficult and at night time especially it is very cold and difficult to endure. There is a critical need for blankets, mattresses and warm clothes to support people through the winter.
