JOB SUMMARY

Since 2011, Islamic Relief has been providing support to Syrians affected by the ongoing conflict – working on the borders to provide food, blankets, and hygiene kits as well as subsidies for rent.

In 2012, we began working deep inside Syria to provide essential humanitarian relief as the violence continued to escalate.

As well as helping vulnerable people still in the country – reaching around 1.4 million people in 2013 alone – our programmes in nearby countries offer vital support to families that have fled their homes.

We continue to lobby the international community to halt the conflict, and call for essential humanitarian corridors.

PURPOSE OF DEPARTMENT:

The department ensures financial systems and processes are developed, implemented, supported and maintained to meet stakeholder information needs in an effective and timely manner.

The department ensures IR operations remain within the spirit and letter of the law and IR interests and assets are legally protected and IR compliance to any legislative requirements and strategic and day-to-day legal advice is available to the organization.

JOB PURPOSE:

Responsible for day to day supporting in accounting functions in IR Turkey – Istanbul office and follow up all records, paper and electronic, listed on the retention schedule to be retained for the specified period of time.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This position regularly consults with:

  • Finance Manager / Finance coordinator.
  • Finance officers at country office level.

SCOPE AND AUTHORITY

Scope of the Role:

Reporting to the Finance Officer/ Coordinator – Turkey office, the Finance assistants has day to day responsibility for maintaining fully support to Istanbul office in related financial archiving documentation matters and duties.

Responsibility for Resources:

The archiving finance assistants is responsible for the following resources:

  • Supporting the finance department to maintain the financial documentation hard and soft copies based on Islamic Relief Turkey / Syria policies and procedures as well as based on the Turkish Law.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Preparing the financial documents to be neat, well-presented, well-organised and properly indexed;
  • Preparing the financial documents to be secured in both the short and long term;
  • Preparing the financial documents to be consistent with other files in the office of a similar type hard and soft copies;
  • Preparing all related financial transactions / documents to be ready for financial consultant to be booked in the government system.
  • Preparing the financial documents to reflect consistent staff procedures and routines;
  • Preparing the financial documents to be consistent with Islamic Relief archiving policy and;
  • Comply with any other regulatory or legislative requirements.
  • Scanning all related financial documentations in high quality manor on timely basis.
  • Preparing all Journals / vouchers to be ready for the audit and when required.
  • Create new folder for each project to allocate all related financial vouchers to be linked with the final financial reports.
  • Other required duties requested by line manager or supervisor.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

It is essential that the post holder is a Turkish Citizen and shows a good understanding and sympathy with the Islamic Values and principles as well as commitment to Islamic Relief Worldwide’s vision and mission.

And to ensure proper implementation of Islamic Relief Turkey / Syria financial rules and procedures.

Essential:

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

Education

· Secondary school, Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration is desirable.

Language

· Turkish native speaker and understanding both written and oral in English & (Arabic is Desirable).

Experience

· Understanding of management archiving principles and techniques.

· Experience of minimum 1 year in an archiving and clerk position.

· The ability to work as a team.

· High degree of communication skills particularly attuned to working well with non-finance professionals and volunteers.

· Good understaing using excel tables.

· Analytical skills.

· Culturally sensitive.
