IR’s intervention equipped children with school bags, clothes and food packs. It stopped dropouts from schools and made access to safe access to education.

Education is caught in the ongoing Syria crisis. Since the crisis began, more than 4,200 schools – around 1 in 5 – have been damaged, destroyed, or used as shelters for internally displaced people (UNICEF).

Education is caught in the ongoing Syria crisis. Since the crisis began, more than 4,200 schools – around 1 in 5 – have been damaged, destroyed, or used as shelters for internally displaced people (UNICEF).

In order to provide equitable access to education for Syrian school aged children affected by this crisis, Islamic Relief provided equitable access to education for Syrian school aged children affected by the crisis.

At An-Nahda Camp in Idleb, we worked with children to improve conditions and environment of to help them continue their education. In the same time, the project improved their nutritional wellbeing.

In 2016, Islamic Relief targeted around 1000 school children and 51 teachers in two schools. Children were in need of educational support, school-kits, clothes and food assistance. Schools were provided with furniture (desks, blackboards, stationary) and construction of extra room and school latrines.

One of the teacher at An-Nahda School said, “Our school passed through difficult conditions and severe shortage of basic schooling furniture. Such intervention helped children cope after psychosocial support activities helping girls and boys overcome their traumas. Access to education encouraged families to send their girls to schools reducing early marriage cases.

The teacher added, “Empowering education in Idleb has a great impact. Aggression, violence and abuse are reduced in the school environment and this contributes to the positive impact of having the school operational. We hope that support for the school continues for the good of our local community.”
